do you feel it is prejudicial...

or discriminatory to require immigrants to this country to learn to speak - and converse in - english?

I feel it is mandatory for aliens legal or illegal, to speak and write english. All Legal documents are in english, and for their own protection I feel it is mandatory. Forget the Social whining, deal with the real world. English is the language used in contracts and legal documents.

English - a requirement to become a citizen, and also very important; a requirement to work in customer service for any American business that speaks with the American public.

Cherokee OKs law targeting illegals
Despite threat of legal challenges, commissioners OK ordinances declaring English the county's official language, and targeting landlords who rent to illegal immigrants. The county also will start checking on the legal status of anyone applying for public benefits.

I think anyone who applies for public benefits should be scrutinized for their qualifications, I feel sure alot of illegal aliens will be caught.

Everyone bellyaching better be glad the native Americans (tonto indians) didn't require our forefathers to have to speak their language when we first got hear.

And secondly, now the Cherokee commissioners themselves are just as much lawbreakers as the people they are trying to persecute. The national government is the only body that can create and enforce immigration laws (or at least that is the way I understand it.)

I think if you want to be a productive member of your new community then you should take it upon yourself to learn english. But you should not have it forced to learn it.

No one said anything about forcing anyone to read and speak english. If they dont they should be omitted from any activity that english is required. Example, Contracts, and other legal documents.
