If government would have listened to Norman the first time we were there, we wouldn't be there now. If you keep feeding the "B", eventually you're going to step in the "S" and it won't be smelling like a rose.
We need to fix our problems here in the USA over fixing their problems.
Whats the purpose of being there? And if we leave will we have made a difference? I had no problem with us going in at first, but now I am wondering is it worth it?
I dispute the premise. Until 2003, Germany was one of the largest off-shore military bases for the U.S. It took well over a decade after WWII to establish a working democracy in Germany. This occurred with a communistic opposition (a.k.a Soviet Union).
The national media is certainly attempting to demise any political will for Iraq, however many good things are occurring (i.e. working Water Systems, Electrical Systems, established currency...). To quote our President, "We'll succeed, unless we quit."
Barack Obama would get us out.
It is obvious that there is not a means to win this war because of the enemy infiltration of Iraq from bordering countries which present policy will not pervent. I think it is about time that the US recognized that it can not export democracy. A culture must be ready for such and it must come from within. Change comes from the desires of new generations. Old religious ideology will fall by the way side and the desire for new freedoms and oppertunities will be a demand of it's youth. Special interest in Iraq will be its greatest threat to future democracy.
Another Interesting Story!
THIS WILL OPEN YOUR EYES!
By Paul Harvey
Conveniently Forgotten Facts.
Back in 1969 a group of Black Panthers decided that a fellow black panther named Alex Rackley needed to die.
Rackley was suspected of disloyalty. Rackley was first tied to a chair. Once safely immobilized, his friends tortured him for hours by, among other things, pouring boiling water on him. When they got tired of torturing Rackley, Black Panther member, Warren Kimbo took Rackley outside and put a bullet in his head. Rackley's body was later found floating in a river about 25 miles north of New Haven, Connecticut. Perhaps at this point you're curious as to what happened to these Black Panthers?
In 1977, that's only eight years later, only one of the killers was still in jail. The shooter, Warren Kimbro, managed to get a scholarship to Harvard and became good friends with none other than Al Gore. He later became an assistant dean at an Eastern Connecticut State College. Isn't that something?
As a '60s radical you can pump a bullet into someone's head and a few years later, in the same state, you can become an assistant college dean!
Only in America!
Erica Huggins was the woman who served the Panthers by boiling the water for Mr. Rackley's torture. Some years later Ms. Huggins was elected to a California School Board.
How in the world do you think these killers got off so easily?
Maybe it was in some part due to the efforts of two people who came to the defense of the Panthers. These two people actually went so far as to shut down Yale University with demonstrations in defense of the accused Black Panthers during their trial. One of these people was none other than Bill Lan Lee. Mr. Lee, or Mr. Lan Lee, as the case may be, isn't a college dean. He isn't a member of a California School Board. He is now head of the United States Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, appointed by none other than Bill Clinton.
O.K., so who was the other Panther defender?
Is this other notable Panther defender now a school board member?
Is this other Panther apologist now an assistant college dean? No, neither!
The other Panther defender was, like Lee, a radical law student at Yale University at the time.
She is now known as "The smartest woman in the world."
She is none other than the Democratic senator from the State of New York----our former First Lady, the incredible Hillary Rodham Clinton.
And now, as Paul Harvey said;
"You know the rest of the story".
Remember this when she runs for President.
Please go to http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/h/hillarypanthers.htm and see for yourself that this is the truth.
what does "stupid white men trying to give the country away" have do do with the war in iraq?
Remember the wars on drugs and poverty? Who won?
A war is a state of armed conflict between two or more groups of people. What is a war on terror? That's part of the problem with our current leadership - language. We're in the absurd situation of waging a "war" on terrorism in the middle of a civil war that our president says doesn't exist.
Anybody remember LBJ telling the troops in Vietnam to "nail the coonskin to the wall"? (http://www.english.uiuc.edu/maps/vietnam/causes.htm) Sound a little like "stay the course" or "we won't quit"?
To anonymus, quoting Paul Harvey...

According this version of the truth, the Hillary story is false.
What do you think the odds are for forming alliances with Islamic Moderates? What about changing the label from Islamic Extremists to Middle East Fascists? In other words, drop the reference to Islam in defining the enemy - Nazis instead of Germans, Communists instead of Russians - that sort of thing. After all, there are plenty of Muslims living in the United States. There are Muslims in the military.
Divide and conquer. Don't make enemies when you don't need to.
