car stolen from thomaston street residence...

between 4:30 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. friday

later the car was found being driven by charlie mays who may have more arrests on his record than any other living, breathing lamar countian. it is amazing he is not locked away for life. mays was charged with auto theft and other counts this time around.

lock your car. take your keys. in fact, lock up all your possessions.

I can assure you Mr. Mayes is only one of many living here in Barnesville. I bet if you go down to the PD you would find out that cars among other things are stolen on a regular basis. It just finally happened on Thomaston street. For some reason, it takes things like this to happen in certain parts of town to wake people up.In sweet little ol Barnesville there have been rapes, drive by shootings, car jackings, gangs and the drug problem is unbelievable. Add all the college students to the mix and the PD has their hands full. I really dont see how 2 officers can continue to handle the workload at night. I for one would not do it.

For all the people out there who think that bad things dont happen in Barnesville, you need to wake up! Do lock your cars and doors. Im sure whith Christmas right around the corner, the crime rate will pick up.

Sincerely,
A concerned citizen

Ok, here is a question for everyone....Why can A. English be arrested for theft by receiving stolen property (washing machine & 4 wheeler) and his name be posted in the paper, under the SO report, and a LOCAL BUSINESS MAN be arrested for theft by receiving stolen property ( A $65,000 tractor) and not be listed in the paper???????????????????????

Is our Sheriff a Good old Boy?

i am aware of a case similar to what you describe. often arrest reports are withheld in 'ongoing investigations'.

we often cooperate in these - particularly in property crimes. personally, if there are five people involved in something i don't mind holding one arrest for awhile while they get the other four.

i personally watch all the court calendars and the grand jury presentment lists in particular to watch for things like this.

I assure you, the level of incoppetense shown by some of the Judges and Members of the DA's office. I feel we need to baracade our doors. The Judges will not do anything, they will allow plea bargains that are ridiculous, and let persons be back on the street.
Victimless crime persons get to go to the slammer. Doesnt make sense.
I think somebody cheated on their bar exam.

Oh ok I get it, there are others involved. Hopefully they will get them too.

If you're mocking one of the finest preachers in America today, Benny Tate, shame on you. You have no name, so obviously you choose to live in the dark. Come out of the darkness into His marvelous light. Something is happening in a church that has gone from 30 to 2500 members in 16 years. Perhaps you need to visit Rock Springs Church and receive some of this "Bennie Butter" It's called "salvation: and it's free to anyone who accepts Christ as their Savior and asks forgiveness of their sins.

Thomaston st. oh my,wonder if they will get more on the police force now since the high dollar people of Barnesville are having crimes now????

Wonder what this town would be like if there were no Thomaston Street?
Some of these other neighborhoods would help improve the aesthetics of B'ville if they kept their houses and yards clean and neat like Thomaston Street.

I think it's more about getting the people off the street that commit the crimes then what street it's on.

Not all people in Barnesville have had mommy and daddy give them everything and do not have time to work in their yards all day or hire a yard crew. By the way, what does asethetics have to do with anything? Crime is crime no matter where it occurs. Maybe now it will get a little attention. Well it has already received attention hasnt it??

Maybe mr mayes wil do a little jail time now

ANONYMOUS 1:00,
Are you saying that everybody living on Thomaston St. is their because they had a rich mom and dad?
Also can someone tell me why the people on Thomaston St. get such a bad reputation about acting uppetty? Cause personally i don't see it. Is it truely deserved or is more of a jealousy thing.

I'm not sure what this thing against the residents of Thomaston Street is all about. I know for a fact that they are not all from "rich families".

I would like to say to all of the folks on Thomaston Street (from rich and non-rich families), "Thank you". When I travel thru a town, my opinion of the town is not based on the town itself but on the homes and streets that I travel entering and leaving the town. I think the residents of Thomaston Street have down an outstanding job of presenting a positive and good impresssion of Barnesville. As a resident of Barnesville, I thank you for this. I'm proud to take visitors down Thomaston Street.
